Polkadot launches a parachain testnet called Rococo

Polkadot introduced a new testnet this week as a step towards full parachain functionality on the network. The new test network, called Rococo, integrates Cumulus and HRMP (Horizontal Relay Chain Message Passing) into Polkadot.

It is an essential step towards more efficient tools for parachain developers. Rococo gives you options like registering a substrate-based string as a string string and sending messages to the relay string or writing logic for parachute to send messages to other strings through the broadcast string.

Rococo will help developers examine the parachain functionality in Polkadot. It is also a solution for testing the development of the Cross Consensus Message Format (XCM). Like any other testnet, Rococo will allow community members, especially developers, to share feedback and ideas. Will greet the development team to improve the network for the final mainnet release.

The Parachain functionality is a step towards simple blockchain in Polkadot. Another chain called Relay Chain provides the security features and also ensures the security of the messages between chains. Polkadot is the leading team offering parachain on their network and will upgrade Rococo to achieve the ultimate parachain based network.

Parity Technologies, the company behind the Polkadot project, will control the Sudo key on the Rococo testnet. It is necessary due to the proof-of-authority nature of the network.

"Rococo will include three parachutes that support the sending of messages to the relay chain, and messages to each other through the relay chain", according to publication from Polkadot's blog.

Testnet Rococó is in the initial steps and needs multiple improvements and reboot phases to be more stable. Polkadot says that the current version has no features. Some functionalities like HRMP need to be removed and added multiple times to be reliable after bug fixes and code improvements.

“Features like XCMP (Cross-Chain Messaging Transfer, which enables direct parachain-to-parachain messaging) and 'hot swapping' of a substrate string running independently with a parachain are not yet enabled. However, these features are planned for a future Cumulus launch at Rococo. "Polkadot added.

Cumulus is another vital component in the Polkadot chain that acts as a consensus engine for the substrate and runs a Polkadot node internally.
